Fr. Bernabe, elected as Asst. General

IMG_0302 Fr. Ramon Maria Bernabe, OMI was elected on Oct. 1 as one of the assistant generals of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) in Rome and was substituted by Bro. Noel Garcia, OMI.

Fr. Bernabe was the NDGM Director for 3 years and 5 months before being replaced by Bro. Noel Garcia, OMI. Together with other representatives of OMI around the world Fr. Bernabe went to Rome for a meeting called the General Chapter to deliberate on the state of the vocation as missionaries.

He said that he had come as a moderator and not as a delegate which made a complete surprise for him when he was elected as one of two assigned assistants.

Furthermore, he explained that his role as an assistant general is to help the superior general but his particular area focuses more on justice and peace, Oblate lay associates, youth, media, and pastoral ministry.

“What I’ll miss about the NDGM Community are the bonds of friendship, the fruitful working relationships and the joy of seeing young people grow and mature,”said Fr. Bernabe.

Before he leaves the position as director, Fr. Bernabe gave a final message to Bro. Noel which says that “his heart is in the right place and he has to always bear in mind the over-all well-being of people.
